The Year of the Flood is one of my favourite novels! I have a "thing" for dystopian fiction. It's the only thing by Atwood that I've read; I'd like to read more.
Ooh, I loved The Handmaids Tale. We had to read a Canadian book in English, and that's the one I picked. I wasn't too sure about it at first, but it was an amazing book.
I had the pleasure of meeting her many years ago (late 70's) at a poetry festive in North Central Ontario with Farley McGill Mowat and as well, The Four Horsemen (you may note that on my homepage, they are listed as my favourites to this day). As a student, helping out our English teacher who was one of the people who ran this festival, it gave me complete access to the event including the artists. It was to this day, one of the more amazing few day's of my life, sitting with these talented and very artistic individuals. If you ever have an opportunity to sit with her and talk about anything, you will not regret the time spent.
...awesome in how she can create such different-minded characters that all have a different way of seeing the world and interpreting it. Most authors I've read tend to go always with the same kinds of personalities.
Also, if that rumor that DA's doing a featured chat with her is true (though I doubt it), it'd be nice to ask her if she'll write another book featuring the same characters and universe as "Oryx and Crake" and "The Year of the Flood".

Both of these answers are correct:
1) Internationally famous novelist, poet, and critic
and
2)A famous Canadian
(you probably didn't hear about it)
