Merry Christmas

Sipping some champagne and cozying up to the pellet stove on this cold winter Christmas Eve.

For supper we had homemade Seafood Chowder with fresh clams, scallops, haddock, salmon, etc. Yummy.

I hope everyone has a great evening and a fantastic Christmas day!

Stick bombs can be constructed out of most flat sticks of the appropriate dimensions. The usual material for construction is wood, but plastic can also be used. Ice pop sticks (craft sticks) and tongue depressors are popular because of availability, low cost, and because they are easily coloured. Tongue depressor sticks are strongly recommended for construction as they have lower tension than craft sticks and thus are easier to work with.

The sticks are woven together to form a reticulated grid with each stick held in place by tension created by the elasticity of wood or other material. If constructed properly, the removal of a single stick causes the other sticks to fly apart with surprising force. The speed of the shock wave depends on the materials used. If craft sticks are used, the detonation speed is approximately 30–40 meters per second (67–90 miles per hour); for tongue depressors, the speed is under 10 meters per second (22 miles per hour).

What's going on?

Are you a geek or developer and interested in the inner-workings of deviantART or what it takes to maintain a website as large as this?

#dt (deviousTechnology) is the department at dA responsible for coding all the cool features & squashing all the un-cool bugs.  On Tuesday, July 19'th they'll be coming together in our #auditorium chatroom to answer some of your nagging technical questions.

So don't miss this opportunity to hang out with the geeky side of deviantART!

Check out (and +fav) THIS NEWS ARTICLE for all the details!

Journal Exploit

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 15, 2011, 6:41 AM

From the recent blog from hq:

We're aware that there is an exploit spreading through deviantART in the form of user journals containing random inappropriate messages and sometimes a link to the exploit itself. Following the link (and accepting the outgoing link page) results in similar content being posted to the currently logged in users' journal.

We are actively working on a permanent fix for this, and have already put in temporary measures to prevent this spreading further.

A little less than a month ago we uprooted ourselves from the apartment we've been living in for almost 11 years and moved into a house I bought.

I love it.

I can't believe I waited this long to buy a house.

We've been looking for over a year because we wanted some place not ordinary... We didn't want to live in a subdivision and yet we wanted to be somewhat close to town.  We didn't want nosy neighbors.  We wanted nature to be around.  I could go on and on, but we did find a place and we're just starting to get settled in.  One level living, wood pellet stove for those cold winter nights, 5 acre wooded lot, a lake just down the road...

I need a lawn mower - the grass grows fast.

The pool water is no longer green - it's blue! BONUS!  (need to learn how to take care of a pool)

Here's a few photos... the rest of the house still has boxes in it we have to unpack.
